Junior Petrophysicist/Rock Physicist - Careers - Company
Overall Purpose of Role:
The Petrophysicist/Rock Physicist conducts borehole based rock-physics analysis and modeling by carefully processing and interpreting log data. Prime responsibility is to ensure our well-log interpretations are performed consistently and reliably to a high standard and within as short a time period as possible. Following the petrophysical analysis, a number of seismic modeling exercises are performed to test seismic reservoir characterization procedures. This job opening is in the Processing & Interpretation department, which is a multi-disciplinary team of petrophysicists and geoscientists performing integrated projects for clients globally.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Open hole well log analysis of borehole data. Primary purpose is the construction of a reliable suite of borehole attributes from all available logs and core information from top to bottom of the well. This process is called the Geophysical Well Log Analysis (GWLA).
- Perform rock physics diagnostics and modeling, which includes; S-wave velocity predictions, and multiple perturbational exercises such as fluid substitution, mineralogy, porosity and thickness modeling.
- Help to build integrated petrophysical and geophysical models based on seismic and borehole interpretations.
- Assist in designing, developing and marketing advanced well-log analysis and rock-physics model building software tools.
- Assist in marketing products and services of company, with particular emphasis on petrophysical analysis and rock-physics. This will include preparing and presenting scientific papers, and conference attendance.
- The Petrophysicist/Rock Physicist may provide GWLA/iMOSS software support and training to external clients as needed.
Requirements:
- BS in Geology, Petroleum Engineering or Geophysics. MS Preferred.
- 1-4 years of experience.
- Knowledge of well-log interpretation and editing, and core analysis.
- Familiar with commercial petrophysical software(s).
- Some experience in unconventional reservoir petrophysical analysis (e.g. shale reservoirs, tight sands, fractured reservoirs).
- Effective communicator and team player.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Able to work under strict project timelines.
Desirable Background:
- Some experience in Powerlog 2.8 and/or 3.2.
- Rock Physics theory and modeling.
- Familiarity with the principles behind building a shared earth model.
- A working knowledge of geophysics and/or seismic modeling would be a key advantage.
