RSI is a leader in the field of quantitative reservoir characterization using the integration of seismic and non-seismic geophysical data, driven by rock-physics. The brand is well known and has an excellent reputation.

RSI provides a variety of products and services to the upstream E&P industry, including software, R&D programs, well-based databases and quantitative interpretation (QI) consulting services.

RSI is looking to recruit a Manager of Technical Services to run our Houston based technology group. The group consists of approximately 30 geophysicists, petrophysicists and geologists and is responsible for production and delivery of QI projects to our customers, developing well-based multi-client products, and executing both internal and externally funded R&D projects.

Overall Purpose of Role:

Overall responsibility for the day-to-day operational and financial performance of the technology services group.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Both strategic and tactical focus.
  • Champion a commercial outlook to the organization delivering financial success.
  • Coordinate technical advisors and business development staff to ensure that projects are staffed, resourced and coordinated.
  • Ensure that projects are delivered to the highest technical quality.  Responsible for maintaining and improving RSI’s quality assurance (QA) process.
  • Set project goals and deadlines, and stick to them. Be accountable.
  • Maintain client contacts post-project.
  • Maintain open communication regarding projects through weekly meetings and peer reviews.
  • Working with the Technical Advisors, ensure staffing levels within each technology discipline are appropriate.
  • Coordinate training and development for plans for staff.
  • Coordinate technical support for business development staff as required.
  • Coordinate with RSI accounting group to ensure timely and accurate project accrual and billing.
  • Coordinate requirements for new algorithms and workflows to meet project goals in consultation with technical advisors and discipline experts, and develop project plans and time lines to deliver these.
  • Stay abreast of technology innovations in the industry
  • Other duties consistent with role as assigned by General Manager Americas.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Geophysics
  • 10+ years of experience preferred
  • Track record of project planning and successful project management.
  • Background in earth sciences required.
  • Strong management experience, preferably as Processing Manager or Operations Manager, within a commercial geophysical contractor organization.
  • Strong preference of service company experience over E&P company background.
  • Strong verbal and written communicator with excellent people skills; someone who listens, commands respect and instills confidence in others.
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish would be an advantage.
  • Proven track record in staff recruitment and retention activities.
  • “Say what you do, do what you say”, “can do attitude” and “hands on” tempered with realism and pragmatism.
  • Experience in managing growth, including staff recruitment and retention programs.
